Actually, the blues is not in one key, it's in the blues, which is based on three dominant key centerts with alterations depending on what you're playing. And Giant steps moves keys every two measures (sometimes displaced over barlines), from concert Eb, to G, to B.

Im a huge critic of old movies, not that they weren't great or anything or made their mark in that time period, but due to the saturation of whats mainstream now i find it hard to stomach old dry dialogue and especially silent movies, but this scene had me gripped from beginning to end purely genius.

continue...the ugly woman going insane with dead child in her arms balanced with young beautifull mother with baby... timing of cuts in the climax at the end when details of young guy, old woman and buggy are changing rapidly cant be better... So much emotion, so much action in 1925, such a psychological work in 7 minutes... Eisenstein was a genius.

I love this scene. imho best scene of kinematography ever. Moving camera, dramatisation, camrea taking of soldiers is going closer and closer and finaly its details of shoes and filming of shots from unnusual angels, cut is briliant and cant be better, music is really best (imagine pianos in most of movies in that time an years after this movie)...

Oh, and the Red Army only committed more crimes when Stalin took over and pretty much defaced the true concepts of Communism. No one actually died in the October Revolution. No, wait, one person died- he was hiding behind the door and nobody saw him. And the early days of the Revolution actually went pretty smoothly, before Stalin went nuts. Anyways, this film has inspired so many great directors, including Kubrick. Thanks for posting it.

You could be right about them re-inventing themselves, but a lot of artists do this not only for their listeners but for themselves. People change; their styles and tastes change, and they mature as songwriters. To me, they have always seemed to be right smack dab in the middle between "underground" and "selling out". I don't think their "pop" music (if you want to call it that) was necessarily made to appeal to everyone, it's just what they like to play and you can tell that they love it.

however: for any new fans, be aware that even if Radiohead "almost broke up" lots of times, they get along very well now and have never had any public disagreements, even over which songs one member hates. Radiohead's name is still known to people who don't appreciate them and those people often slag them off having heard only one song, Creep (or maybe one or two others, which don't sound anything like their latest work). I think with each album they've made an attempt to re-brand themselves and get their music heard in a different way by new people. They are special cause they avoid media whoring but if they wanted a little clique they would never have made the type of POP music they make.

I agree with you to a point. I didn't learn about Radiohead until I was 17 and I heard Yorke's "Black Swan" in the movie A Scanner Darkly. At the same time, I think a lot of people including myself feel like they've lost a part of their individuality when something they love becomes just another pop-culture phenomenon. One thing I like about Radiohead is how they seem to remain known only to people who truly appreciate their work, despite a massive fanbase.

I thought the BBC thing was pretty good - it put a nice twist on things (the girl being a spy, not in the book) and the actor who played the hero wasn't that bad! I thought he kept his nerve and gentlemanly calm throughout, and had an air of grace about him. Thought he had good chemistry with the woman, Victoria. It is boy's own stuff, remember, it's adventure, it's not meant to be taken totally seriously......and also they only had 90 mins to do it in!

Yes, thats Henry Fonda at 6:26, but the line he speaks is actually credited to Ezra Stone, who played Henry Aldrich. The show would start with Henry's mom hollering his name, and he'd reply with that really lanky, dopey-sounding "Coming Mother!" But why did they gave Fonda that famous line in this cartoon ? ? the only other solution is the animators and director of the short shown reverence to Fairbanks, Sr and perhaps wanted to immortalize him in their cartoon? i don't believe they made any mistakes by inserting an actor who passed away without realizing it; that's making them sound stupid. i think they'd know better being in show business...so there must be a legitimate reason to focus on Fairbanks, Sr. and so now i'll go with they simply wanted to immortalize him in their cartoon.

In addition to the others who did characters at Warner Brothers along with Mel; not many know it, but Daws Butler, a voice actor known for his Hanna-Barbera work, he was often hired by Warner Brothers specifically for celebrity impressions. "The Honeymousers" features Daws Butler and June Foray...but there's no screen credit given for them because only Mel was given voice credit by Warner Brothers. Daws was the voice of Nasty Canasta in "Barbary Coast Bunny", etc.

The way I heard it, Mel told them that if he couldn't get a raise in his salary then give him screen credit on the cartoons. The screen credit for a voice actor had never been did before...Mel was the first and Warner Brothers made the screen credit "exclusive" as to why you didn't see Arthur Q Bryan or Stan Freberg or June Foray or Bea Benederet's name along with Mel's.

Mel didn't voice the characters in this cartoon...he voiced a few celebrity voices like Al Jolsen in a few cartoons; Eddie "Rochester" Anderson in a few cartoons; and Alexander Wolcott {re-named Owl Cott in a few Hollywood cartoons}...but actually, Warner Brothers hired celebrity mimics for these specialty cartoons that veered away from the Bugs Bunny/Looney Tunes characters. FYI - they cut out the part of putting on the fake eyelashes, heehee. So to ppl who want the "runway" look - just know those eyelashes aren't real 99.9% of the time and sometimes models have two layers of the eyelashes (besides makeup) to accentuate. ;)
