The chorus is so powerful...I don't know what else to say besides it speaks to my soul, and it is augmented by the sparse and mysterious verses. According to a couple of accounts I've read, this song was not recorded at the initial sessions for Jim's Christmas album in the summer of 1963. Initially the album was to have only 11 songs. When it was decided "Twelve Songs Of Christmas" would be a good title for the LP, Jim recorded "Silver Bells" some months later as the 12th song.
