It sure is. Sitar and veena are actually meant to be played by both sexes. In the Vedic scriptures veena was played by both Narada Muni (male) and Devi Saraswati (female). Sitar is a descendant of the veena so the same rules apply. :)

QUESTION FOR BASSXTRMCBA----I have not heard it yet, so I cannot comment yet. But what do you (in your opinion) think went wrong? I ask because Ravi is *such* a master & I've NEVER heard him play wrong or out-of-tune notes! Notes that SOUND out-of-tune to us (due to the microtonal Indian scales, YES!), but are you saying it goes beyond that & he just messes up??? Plz explain.

I obtained such knowledge from myself seeing what the world is coming to. I don't think that you understand the meaning of music. Only fools compare - this is a tricky statement. It is not because comparing is wrong. It is simply because the RESULT of the comparison is OFTEN not very pleasing as in this case. It hurts to know that Beatles is a class 3 band. It is nothing but a collection of very very ordinary tunes and lyrics. Overrated band! Like many other things in this world! 'only fools compare' is itself a foolish statement. What proof do you have that only fools compare! It's an anecdote and a cliche! You use it because it sounds wise! It's not true! Humans live their lives through comparisons. Bach Can be compared to the Beatles. Bach is just superior to the Beatles! Shankar IS superior to the beatles. The Beatles is something that got to the mob. If you are thinking everyone in the mob listens to Ravi Shankar or Beethoven, you are mistaken. The mass people always go for average or below average choices. The less the number of the listeners, the more the quality of the music. This is invariably true with a few exceptions. Ravi is not listened to because he is just not easy for average listeners. Beatles is a bunch of drunk and drugged nerds only. They never knew the 'm' of music!

I fail to understand how the Beatles is 'legend' and Ravi Shankar is just 'famous'. The Beatles used to compose tunes for the babies compared to the mature musical talent of Ravi Shankar. I agree that almost every "spritual master" I've ever heard of has been a fraud. Sai Baba, Prabupada, whoever. I consider Ravi Shanker here to be a little dense, spitting out outdated philosophy, and having an annoying sounding voice. But I don't see how he compares to the rest. His programs are pretty genuine, from what I can tell (although I disagree with him on many points). Is there any particular reason you think him a fraud?
