Actually it goes a step further with the lending of money. This is called fractional reserve banking. It is in regards to the amount a bank has to keep in it's vault vs lending. A bank lends 90% of what you deposit out. That 90% is then deposited. 90% of that amount is lent out. Now take every sinlge home, building, factory, business loan and you get a idea of where moeny is created out of nothing. Trillions created out of nothing.

Loans and bailouts to brokerages and large banks from the FED just inject more fiat money on the economy, thus depreciating everyone else's money. This allows the FED "elite" to give money at low interest to favored entities (banks) that just devalue everyone else's money. A loan at two percent with T-bills giving you 4.5% is just "free money" for other wealthy people. Anyone who cant make money on a two percent FED bailout loan is no businessman. The FED is a ATM for the elite. Its a scam.

First off the Bible and the Quran don't mean anything to me. The ancients were idiots, but that is a different conversation. Usury = Slaver. This is wrong. Usury is freely accepted by both parties. Slavery is imposed by one over another. Usury doesn't mean you can buy/own people. Usury means you are loaning someone money with interest. Usury didn't make American's inherently lazy, that was mostly the government. But again this is a different conversation.

I'll be happy to explain why usary is wrong. It starts with the Bible, the Quoran, and many other ancient religions books and belief systems. These ancients weren't forbiding usary for no reason at all. Just like they didn't forbid murder for no reason at all. Usary = Slavery. Usary is wrong for the same reasons slavery is wrong. People with power and money should not be allowed to buy/own the lives of others. It is this very concept of being so wealthy that has made America inherantly lazy.

Usury is only bad in context of printing money, or Fractional Reserve Banking. I would wager that outlawing usury wouldn't stop central banks from printing money, and wouldn't stop the fractional reserve system. However, if you outlawed printing money, and outlawed fractional reserve banking then I don't see usury as being a significant problem. Responsible people may need loaned money for legitimate purposes. I can see no reason why they should be denied that because of stupid people.

And even if the lender gets all of the debtors possessions, it still probably doesn't cover the amount of the loan, and the lender would lose some of his possessions as well. The point being if you don't make good decisions your life is going to suck regardless of usury.

Maybe, but the problem is that the debtor has signed a contract and contracts have to be honored by law, and so, the debtor would go bankrupt and the lender would get his posessions. Obviously, usury is not as bad as the fractional reserve system, but it is a very dangerous road, and its actually how the fractional reserve system started.

Their system IS WRONG, and what they do IS WRONG, but to say usury is wrong because they use usury in their system is like saying computers are wrong because the central banks use computers. Thanks, my point is that this current fractional reserve banking system is unsustainable. We really need a new system that is not based on debt. I hate to say it, but I think we would be better off with a government run banking system that did not allow for the creation of new money through fractional banking and was backed by a commodity such as gold. We need honest money again. The dollar is basically doomed because of this giant ponzi scheme.

Jonald your comment makes a lot of sense. Why else would a bank change your loan's interest rate and make you sign a contract that you have to oblige to the changes before lending? The fact that the govt recently changed these bad lending practices but have allowed banks to continue this practice until the year 2010 (closing the door when the horse is already out of the barn) is very telling.

Sal, Do you agree with the idea that default on loans is built into the system? I believe that it is. It is because of the the interest charged by the fractional reserve banking system that all loans can never be paid back. This 'interest' does not exist in the money supply, thus the only way to pay it back to the lender is through more debt or 'money' in the future. Let me know you thoughts.

I did a bit of research on this and found that a bank functions *internally* like a goldsmith who issues gold claims. Under 10% reserve a modern bank with 1 reserve is able to issue 10 'bank money' claims as one loan. It is then loaned out and very exposed. But it can do that. So your step by step method you have described is not the whole story. They can lend like you have described but they are not required to lend like that.

If I make a loan, instead of handing the debtor cash, I could just create a checking account for the amount in their name so your friends are not incorrect. And i note that "transactional deposits" are 10% of reserve requirements in the USA as of 2006. Greenspan was pals with Ayn Rand back in the day, and his writings from then spoke of a sound money backed by gold and a limited government as the only protectors of peoples' freedoms and prosperity.
