that is very true :) im still using the plasitc recorder i got in the 5th grade.... im in the eighth grade but i cant wait to get a bass recorder! my friend though. when she was living in california, they gave her a verry VERRY crappy plastic recorder! at least mine works! but you couldnt even play anyhting on it!! it sounded horrible!!

the baroque recorder is one of the more complicated wind instrments to produce (wood). There is a great deal of engineering envolved in producing conical bored instrument that can accurately span over two octaves. The ones played here are expensive and were no doubt made by master makers.

Oooh the recorder is far from being a kids instrument. It's just easier to make than other instruments so it has a lot of cheap versions market. But the recorder is a serious instrument. Don't diss it :).

in my opinion (and from my experience) wooden recorders have a much nicer sound. but i guess it's "safer" to buy a cheaper plastic recorder before investing too much money in a wooden instrument and then finding out that one will never use it the "wooden" sound has a different character... and i think it's somehow...classier

I have a (to mine opinion) expensice recorder. I feel the difference between my new one and my old much cheaper one. It's a bit difficulter to play, she has a prescription, but the sound! beautifull i'm sorry for my englisch, I'm just a dutch girl

Okay, I'll admit that some of the cheaper recorders are a bit more difficult to blow notes at the right pitch. Purchasing a costly, high quality instrument will not help a novice player sound better. All beginners should buy a plastic Yamaha recorder or similar, especially if it is their first instrument. Some might discover they like a different family of instruments better. But hey, if you already have your heart set on a special instrument, buy it. I go for bargains - don't need the best.

Essentially there is no difference between a well-made plastic recorder and the (expensive) wooden ones except tone. In fact the plastic ones often sound much better than the ones made from soft wood. The difference is more the skill of the player than the instrument itself. My recorders are all hand-carved from ebony and other hard woods with curved windways (in the mouth piece). A good recorder of the size used in schools can cost $1000s. There are other sizes than those shown here too.

Recorders are very difficult to play because of the three levels of harmonics possible. Unlike other woodwinds, instead of dynamic changes from harder breathing, the pitch changes. Recorders are used in schools because they are inexpensive, not because they are easy to play. I believe the level of difficulty between student level and concert quality recorders does not differ much.

Just because kids in elementary school play the recorder in music class is no reason to assume they're NOT regarded as professional instruments ;) The ones we get in school are the cheap kind. Coupled with lack of skill, it's kind of inevitable that everything comes out really squeaky. But a more expensive recorder, when played properly, sounds very pretty :)

And what then of the basso continuo, andreacutelli? No, I must disagree as Handel wrote in an era where improvisation and ornamentation was welcomed to the performance of scores often rudely written. Yet, out of respect for you criticism, I can appreciate that you may prefer a less ornamented performance as in the case of the first movement especially it can with a slowed tempo have quite a different impression. I myself enjoy both methods but as to Handel's private intentions who can know?

I own this recorder and it has been working fine for me. As the reiveiw said, it is really great if you want to "point and record". Its very handy for my practice sessions. Ive also gotten some good live recordings from it as well. I agree that it would be wonderful if allowed 4 track similtaneous recording though. Seeing as im a drummer this would do wonders for recoding my drumkit.

I found what I needed!The Boss Micro BR is perfect for my needs!I found it at Musician's Friend while scanning different sites looking for something to suit my needs! It is awesome and perfect for what I wanted it for!I can record the tracks using multiple instruments and play them back through my stereo system immediately afterward!Too many options to go over!If your looking for something similar,check it out! This would be perfect if: 1 It allowed 4 track simultaneous recording. 2 Allowed 48k sample rates for doing audio for video. 3 The limiter was analog pre A/D conversion It would be nice to (to record a/v of a concert) be able to set up near the soundboard, record the stereo mic as well as a stereo feed from the soundboard (at 48k) and later mix the two to taste, and then sync up the (multicam) video feeds. I don't think there is any comparable product that can do all this is there?

I own H4 for about 2 years. Despite its build quality, which might look cheap at first, it is a pretty cool recorder with a whole bunch of extra functions. Recording quality is really good. I also use 4 track recording function as well. The menus are slightly awkward and the display is tiny, but when you get used to it, it's OK. Overall rating - 8/10. Excellent value for maney. Highly recommended

I cant believe you forced that sd card out though. you only have to push down slightly on the middle of it and it triggers a spring that pops it out a quarter of the way when you release the pressure. and makes it much easier to pull out. oh and it's mostly designed so that you cant really press to hard hope that helps.

This is the most informative review that I have seen. One thing that you did not show, is that the Zoom H4 makes a great interface for the computer. So you can use the onboard effects or any other guitar or music editing software that you want. The controls are complicated but like any tool there is a learning curve, so if you are not the type that is willing to READ the manual, get a model with less features, for less money. I subscribed to your channel and will look at all you reviews, THANKS.

This sounds just like what happens with the refineries--when nothing else is happening it's: "They've had to shut down this or that refinery for maintenance". They learned with Katrina, the first time gasoline topped $2.00 a gallon. It was wonderful and it was such a disappointment when everything was over. I remember one time very briefly when gasoline dropped to $1.99 after Katrina--and boy it never happened again, because from then on it was one reason or another to restrict supplies.

That would be a "lute" not a mandolin... Mandolins have four courses with two equally tuned strings in each course and they are tuned as a violin, a lute has 6-15 courses and isn't quiet as bright, also I do believe that the individual strings in a course usually tuned an octave appart.
