I think there are certain companies that are too big, too interconnected with other businesses, to be allowed to fail. You're not talking about an isolated convenience store. If certain companies fail, they'd take down the entire economy and cause massive unemployment and a second Great Depression. We solved the last Depression through massive government spending, so why not start that NOW, without waiting? Or do you really HATE poor people on credit, and want them to suffer? Hmm . . . .

It could be extremely transparent, but if people are still legally able to hurt themselves economically, the system is still fundamentally flawed. Just like the mortgage meltdown. Credits represent deals can be built. The question is who you are dealing with. When you are isolated, you can't make good deals for both parties. Let's get the transparency working for both side first. In a perfect utopian society, abolishing the credit system would be ideal. So would free markets. However, the United States has not had a free market system since the 1930s, and there's no reason to believe that's going to change. Seeing as how socialism already exists for the wealthy investor class, there reasonable precedent to simply extend the mixed economy of the United States to the American people. There's nothing wrong with being a little progressive & less barbaric. Like Europe.

I like that Max is a fan of sound money, and I agree "deregulation" and rigged markets are a big problem. But it seems to me that when markets get to the point of having some parties learning how to fleece others really well so that the system faces collapse, the solution is to let the system collapse. How else will people learn? In the long run, putting in regulations that "protect" fools from past fleecing strategies just sets them up for the new and bigger ones next time.

The last stimulus Bush gave us was a cash box scenario. Peoople weren't spending it, just holding on to it. I don't see it working this time either. These banks, insurance companies, car companies, etc need to fail so stronger companies can rise up and benefit the economy. The banks are not lending the money that the gov't gave them. My theory is that many banks and The Big Three are using the bailout money to pay top executives, because they know very well that their company is failing.

Taxing wall street won't work. They need to pay a share without a doubt, but if corporations are taxed they will simply pass that along in the form of higher prices and lower wages/fewer jobs. "Taxing the rich" doesn't bring in more money, it only ensures that they will find new ways to hide what they have. Obama's plans are sketchy and mainly entail higher Fed spending, and higher deficits.

Bottom line: To stimulate economy, we have to rebuild our manufacturing industry. A country with strong manufacturing base will be able to produce more value added goods to trade with others and reduce the need for military spending, or looting others for goods and resources. We have all the military in Middle East for oil, and bases in Korea and Japan so they will keep financing our debts by buying our treasury bonds. The main problem with United States economy today is lack of manufacturing. We can give everybody $10,000 today but we will not generate more wealth. Most things we buy are made in other countries. We have a 70% consuming and service economy, which is ridiculous. The world is accepting our dollar now for goods because dollar is pegged to oil. To get oil they have to sell US goods. When US dollar hegemony ends we will have to produce more to trade with others. Need more manufacturing, period.

The most important reason communism doesn't work is incentive. In communism (a mommy and daddy form of government) you are "Equal", which means everyone is paid the same for the same work. Which makes absolutely no sense because that would mean a brain surgeon would get the same wages as a grocery bagger at Lifesucksballsmart. How does this make sense to any of you?

He speaks just nonsense, he obviously doesn't know what socialism is. Socialism is when things are completely state owned, not private and capitalist govt owned. I am a socialist and in no way do I support the bail outs, which I believe are trying to help the capitalist system succeed and continue. The bail outs are fleecing people in need, they are depleting very quickly the state resources which should be used for the truely needy.

Communist leaders through out history have always suppressed religion altogether because it allows free thinking and expression. In a Communist society you are forced to completely pledge your self to the idea of communism and that is moronic because that is brainwashing. I think I rather live in a society where there are christian zealots who "smother the theory of evolution" rather than a society where a totalitarian regime controls every aspect of our life and doesn't allow freedom of expression all together. At least in a capitalist society we have freedom of expression.
