The problem with my first victim is that the one flat ribbon cable cannot be moved such that it does not obscure the screen from the back. are these flat ribbon cables readily available so that I can lengthen it and place the electronic apparatus out of the way?

yeh i've done the same thing with a OHP, but my lcd was for a laptop, and they like to save space meaning the electronics PCB is halfway down the back the glass/transistor/glass section, casting a nasty shadown. I broke that now, when I picked it up at the corner. Anyone know where I can get a cheap LCD screen which will work fine for a setup like this. pity this guys a startrek nerd :)

By my math your now paying (with that system) 10 cents per KW more then current utility rate. This is NOT counting replacement of battery as often as once per year (not to mention the carbon deficit of making Lead Acid Batteries) but being generous I figured you might get 5 years out of the battery. Better to use solar and wind energy to produce hydrogen and store it compressed. Then burn the Hydrogen to power a generator AND provide residual heat. IMHO

I would love to be able to ?nstall a cheap solar power system, but I think as your video shows they are still not cheap. I think you said you run two 5w lamps for $250. Is that really economic especially as you have not factored in the replacement cost of the batteries at some point. Well done for cutting down on your bills and CO2 production but I feel it is just tokenism (mainly because the producers of the solar kit wont bring down thier prices to realistic levels).

Ok, solved the problem with the use of a zip-tie. Works well for those wanting to use an older iPod cable. just tighten the zip-tie around the the connector so that it presses the release buttons in. Make sure you tighten it such that the loop on the zip-tie is tucked around the back of the connector.

Is there something special about the USB cable that came with the iPhone 3G? I'm using an older cable here at work (from an iPod) that has little releases on either side of the connector that you have to press to get the iPod (or iPhone in this case) out. Does the cable that came with the 3G not have these? I remember the conector itself being a little smaller.

Let me explain further. When I need three cups of sifted flour I would sift about four cups into a large bowl. Then I use a tin measuring cup and scoop up three cups of the already sifted flour out of the bowl. I don't take three cups of unsifted flour and sift them directly into the mixing bowl as was done in the video. That would give me probably about a cup of extra flour. I'm not trying to be obnoxious or anything. It's just that this is how I do it.

How rude! I did watch the video and if you read it. (I watched it for a third time). They dump three cups of unsifted flour into the sifter first. The flour needs to be sifted before measuring the three cups. Otherwise you end up with too much flour and you get a bready cake.

uh oh! WRONG!!! You need to sift the flour first before measuring!!!! When I checked unsifted flour with sifted you end up with about a half cup more flour per cup than if you sift it first. Makes for a much lighter cake!

Another idea that I've tried around my sewing area is line the wall with some bulletinboard paper for a temporary wallpaper. Double-sided tape and the occasional pushpin should hold it up. You can paint, draw, write, whatever on it (as long as it doesn't bleed through), and when you're bored or moving, just take it down and start over again. Bulletinboard paper can be found in most office supply stores and come in only few colors, though, generally some pastels or generic rainbow shades.

Contact paper is most commonly used to cover paperback workbooks to help keep them in shape. It's like a giant sleeve of tape. (Great for gradeschool workbooks < 3) Anyways, you can find contact paper at any office/school supply store. Colors and styles may vary from where you go, but that's where you're going to find it.
