And kingscrusher missed some information too. he says exchanging Knight would have been a better move(at 6:54), but what if white queen and not white rook takes black knight, it would not be easy to mate white king then. if you think otherwise, kingscrusher could you pls explain why exchange of knights is still a better option

white would move away form the centre in other words for material exchange,black has position advantage. the pawn is sort of gambited and if i am correct this is the queen's gambit. the pawn is sacrificed but is compansated with position advantage. the centres squares are important

After ...Bg4 I don't fully understand h3. If White is so concerned, White should just play f3 with a potential of Ne4, a square you missed in your analysis I believe. Black should also be aware that a plan like ...Nb4 Bb1 (Keeping Bishop pair) Nxc4 faces a counter threat with Qd3 (threatens mate and/or capturing the c4 Knight), so preparation moves are necessary, and by then White can prevent such ideas with either b3 or a3.

Personally I slightly disagree on your assessment after both sides did 0-0. If anything, White seems better because of the "traditional perspective to divide the board". White's d3 Bishop is awesome on h7 (Black has no f6 natural Knight), the Bishop on c1 is well positioned without the need to move, and conventionally White can prove it's advantage in such situations in the Queenside (a,b,c files), by advancing the Queenside pawns, where Black's Queenside pawns are blocked by it's own Knights.

5.exd6 is playable, but objectively speaking helps Black gain a tempo with 5...exd6 opening up the Bishop. The issue here is that White must do something as Black threatens ...dxe5 dxe5 Qxd1+, at least equalising for Black. White can consider 5.Nf3 but must know of the potential 5...Bg4 pin, or the rock-solid way to hold with 5.f4 but again it doesn't "develop". Here the option for 0-0 is still safe because Black has no good way to exploit the g1-a7 diagonal yet.

I'm not a good player, just a fundamental "opening explorer" myself. I enjoy "chess contributions" by various players here, but this one doesn't seem very helpful for beginners -- I know of the 10min time constraint but many moves are not discussed adequately. Some personal thoughts as follow 3.c4 is not very well explained. -- it chases Black's only active knight, but doesn't contribute to white's development at all with 3.d4 as a popular alternative easier to appreciate for beginners.

All those guys in the joint have to do is play chess really, so of course over years and years of time of playing it everyday for hours and hours on end each day you're going to get good at the game. I know this from being there unfortunately. I knew how to play since I was 7 and when I had to go there for a little bit I met some of the best players I've ever seen. im a pretty strong chessplayer, and ive played plenty of inmates....They arent stupid and with a lot of free time im sure they could be strong theoretically...But their problem is always psychological...they get too set in their ways, refuse to accept the moves they always make are errors, and they lack the discipline to analyze correctly. Of course, these qualities are also present in scholastic players, but slightly less....

Blacks and arabes have only one grandmaster each, and even then the ELO rating has been inflated, so you would have to take that into consideration! So these guys may not even be true grandmasters. If you would have read correctly you would have notice I was making funny of the fact that many blacks in prison are muslims! I didn't mention anything about the abilities of other races or the numbers of inmates! But now that you mention it, blacks make up to 60% of inmates in prison, most are muslims! Yet they only make up 10% or the population at large! Yes! In some prisons they only make up 30-40 percent, I know but none the less there are more blacks percentage wise in prisons!

I thought you should know that @ about 2:11 of your opening discussion you suggest ... ng4 in response to e5. I guess you didn't notice Qxg4. As I recall black needs to play Ne4 in that position and replys ...d5 to most moves by white. I used to play this all this time when I was active, but I prefered the Goring Gambit...cheers.

Lol nice. I can't help but point out he forgot a couple moves about the pawn. It can move two spaces if wanted on its first move, and "En Passant" (known as the passed pawn) where if only on the fifth rank on the opponent's end your opponent moves his pawn two spaces to avoid challenging your pawn you may capture his pawn by moving it diagonally in its normal attack way. I suck at explaining shit but I wanted to point these out haha.

In my view, the database is most useful to see how humans tend to approach a position, in fact they often repeat the mistakes of others. But it doesnt give truth or tell you what will give YOU the best results against any opponent.

The databases can be tweaked by player strength, year, etc. So for instance you can build a collection of results from games in the last decade, or even past few years. I find it very useful for a number of applications actually. That being said, it is just one component of things I like to check when I explore various things such as openings.

haha, why did someone thumbs down my comment? look, I understand you used database and understand how it works, im just trying to help you. Consider this: a line is often considered strong and is played for 300 years. Then suddenly modern computers find a flaw in the line and its now know to be lost and never played again. The database will still give it an excellent win %. You have to trust judgement more than statistics.

Thanks for the comment Vision! I agree about engine analysis and the use of openings at lower levels. I find the large databases exceptionally useful when researching book lines especially. I have a large one that incorporates a variety of levels of play, and an elite on as well.

Dont worry about what a computer says in the opening. It is good that your looking at databases but those are also bias since they usually take into account master games for their stats. Off beat openings like the bird, blackmar diemer and other dismissed gambit lines are very effective at lower levels. try to understand the WHY of the opening and its strategical point For instance the bird is a dutch reversed note the importance of the dark sqauares and the break ....e5 for black ...nice vids

Your opponent didnt seem to know the Birds opening very well and Froms gambit is an excellent reply to 1.f4 I agree that nf6 isnt the most aggressive move. d5 has far more options and is 100% going to be played later GreenCastleBlock: I disagree with the Swiss Gambit. Jrobi had very little experience with the Birds opening and its highly unlikely white would have played 2.e4 here. He probably would have played 2. nf3, e3 or c3
