If I remember correctly, the corporations and record companies didn't like the song because it was a problem similar to the Napster issue. They felt that this song would encourage kids to record their favorite songs off of the radio or a friends record on to a cassette tape rather that buy it. What the fuck? This song is an existential masterpiece. It presents a protest against the vacuous cultural hegemony of America and then in the chorus ecstatically posits human inter-relationships as the only way of remedying this meaningless existence. And if anything it tackles the far wider issues around Apartheid (which was in essence an attempt at keeping the established social heirachy in an old colony) by attacking the propaganda used by the USA to aid their contemporary imperialism.
