I think my main question is not really how but why. I think it can be valid but they don't state why. Also moving architecture is nothing new. Santiago Calatrava has been doing it for decades. Agreed, but they had a reason for going there. This has no purpose but to move. He stole the pod to core idea from Archigram, which published their ideas in the 1960's. This is nothing new. Their is much more interesting moving architecture in the world. He claims to be the inventor of moving architecture - a big lie. Bernard Shaw even built a pod that he would rotate on a pivot to face the sun when he was writing, that doesn't make it great architecture but at least it had a purpose.

Great point Mike - they have mult-directional wind blades which might work but the power they generate is miniscule compared to wind turbines - Zero Energy tower by SOM has four large wind turbines but they are strategically placed to make use of wind up-draft. This does absolutely nothing in that regard and assumes that wind travels perfectly horizontal across a tower - FALSE. Huge mistake that even an non-expert knows. This is an ego maniac at work. Once again, great point.

Absolutely bonkers. Also, sorry to rain on the "it will be an eco-friendly power plant" idea, but those vertically-mounted horizontal-axis "wind turbines" won't generate squat! Wind turbines need a large area of approaching air - sandwiching them between floors like this is like installing solar panels underground. Why not put PV cladding on the sides of this building and let the floors track the sun - then you might have a serious reason for a rotating tower.

So, the conclusion: Android apps will always Java/JVM-based. That's clear because all android apps run on the Dalvik(which is a JVM). Unless you want to modify the system. For your info, libary isn't necessary as you can simply write a linux/BSD/blabla application by only using system calls. Library just making your work easier.

Ok: For short, I been specific to android. Over the hardware and "bios" you have a monolithic kernel call linux. Alone, the kernel only some management, drive the hardware, work some file system. To work, they add some libraries, then api and over all this you run application. You could add extra-libraries&api&application in this order. It's a kind of hacking ;) You need a cross-compiler,a debuger, to modified the G.U.I. But little portabilities for this "new" specific application.

Basically, when you want to write a linux software what you need is libc. But you can't use that java classes to use with your native application. Let say you want to write an openGL apps, you will need the related library. That library is not available with android. What android have is just a libc. That's clear. I think you are missing the point. This is not some random shape being generated on a computer, for the sake of. (although I agree is some fairly naive and superficial applications of the computer.) In this project a genetic algorithm was used to incrementally improve on a design (one criteria for improve would be 'fit for human inhabitation'). While this example fails, there is evidence to suggest that computers will be able to augment the design process, improving the results.

It makes me so upset that today architecture is developing in this direction (computer design, iconography, strange shapes...). dmmd123 tells us that 'architecture is art' and i totally disagree! Architecture should just stand for one thing and that's the human being and nothing else...

I love the discussion here! I totally agree to the opinion, that algorithms and math _can_ result in great architecture. This even applies to alot more than just architecture. The art is properly defining the problem mathematically so that you can derive the answer mathematically. Math is just reformulated thinking. If your thoughts cannot be formulated through existing mathematical terms, define your own!

I love the degree. Think of it as American idol on extreme mode. You have 150 students, 50 to 70 graduate. 10 become licenced registered architects. But your imagination is your limitation. 3rd year to final year is tough. You better learn to have thick skin or the tutors will eat you. Any idea is good but an excellent idea has supporting information. learn auto cad, revit, or some software. it is needed for surival here.

I am a post grad architecture student here under the new 3 plus 2 program. 1. I am an international student so I can't say. 2. first year to second year is number crunching driven. You don't need to be a rocket scientest but you need a lot of time to learn the calculations. Trusses are not fun!!!!! 3. This university is really good. Once you graduate here, you can be a computer science architect, interior, or just an architect. I wish I could write more.... so send me a message.

I'm in first year architecture at UNSW so here's my opinion: 1) Design + Tech: extra UAI points towards this degree with HSC Plus (if you do well). I did Yr9-11 D+T; the skills you take with you are the development of your 'process' and 'folio presentation'. Art: there is a LOT of drawing involved in architecture, but you don't need to do HSC Art; you can draw anytime you want! It helps to be able to express what is in your head with a pen. I've run out of space, so you can msg me =)

I think its a suicide. The dog doesnt yawn, it barks out then collapses in despair. All the happy stuff in the leadup is to exentuate the tragedy - the convertible, sunglasses etc all works to reveal how these misguided kids are in the prime of their lives. It is this narrative context which makes their suicides so much more shocking. Also the floating fall, IMO, adds to the surreal otherwordly feel of their deaths; as though it shoudln't be happening. Again it adds to the tragedy.

I don't think it was suicide. I think it was purely metophoric. The call was to that location. They jumped into it, as though being called. Note they didn't plummet, they floated slowly down. It's hard to say w/o reading everything that's ever been written on them, but maybe they picked their name to not make sense, on purpose; it's been known to happen! It would be embarrassing, though, to greet them in Finnish & have them & everyone around look at you like you lost your mind, when you're affirming them in their chosen name & apparent nationality.
