Instead of drilling here in our own backyard using some of the worlds safest, most advanced, and most environmentally safest drilling technology in the world, we prefer to buy our oil that was drilled for on a pristine desert ecosystem.... in the name of saving the planet mind you.
By: remotecivilian. on 24 Dec 08, 21:22:12
I did not know that.
By: carlwegenschimmel. on 22 Dec 08, 04:00:42
The infamous dust bowl can partially be attributed to over grazing of livestock as can the spread of the sahara into the sahal region of africa.
By: carlwegenschimmel. on 22 Dec 08, 03:58:46
Actually thats not true. The buffalo were key in maintaining the prarrie ecosystem. When domesticated animals such as sheep were introduced they over grazed and introduced invasive weeds. There are books on the subject.. Similarley elephants help maintain the savannah in africa by knocking over trees. They are both "keystone species"
By: carlwegenschimmel. on 21 Dec 08, 18:01:02
Actually I am quite informed. I study wildlife biology and I know people who work with caribou and I have been to the yukon and alaska. Plus I have studied birds in the field for the last five years. So don't tell me I do not know how Sensitive arctic ecosystems are.
By: Propelled. on 21 Dec 08, 06:43:54
And you've been to the slope how many times. Spread this crock of BS somewhere else. I've SEEN the 'bou all over the slope. They could care less about the activities on the slope. The activities are ultra confined to skids and centers due to the extreme weather. To listen to the uninformed lame junk you're spreading here one would have to think that workers are banging around with jackhammers every ten feet. Get your uninformed keester to the slope and look for yourself.
By: Propelled. on 21 Dec 08, 06:40:33
Pull up rhymetime17, pull up!!!! You're WRONG! Is there a reason you're lying about where Alaska's oil is going? Don't you think people can read? Sell stupid somewhere else.
By: Jonny0Colorado. on 17 Dec 08, 17:10:26
I don't understand why we can't punch a hole in the ground, give me one good reason why?. I mean if we can't drill for oil in a god forsaken frozen flate piece of coatal plain that is Northern ANWR We have a problem here in America. You could start drilling now and not tell the public and no one would ever know the difference because no one visits ANWR any way, let alone the northern coastal plain!
By: rhymetime17. on 14 Dec 08, 01:34:20
Why do people have these absurd ideas that opening up public lands to private companies will give these companies any incentive to lower prices. There is already oil drilling occurring in Alaska ... and that oil is currently being exported to Japan. Alaska's oil is not somehow "America's" own personal stash. It is a global market and America only possesses 2% of the world's oil, while using 25% of it. Opening ANWR would have a tiny impact on world oil prices and would not save americans $.
By: mhstz. on 13 Dec 08, 21:14:15
the world kept turning just fine even after the buffalo herd had passed through.
By: mhstz. on 13 Dec 08, 21:12:16
1st- compare cows and buffalo. About the same. Both eat grass, have big pointy hooves, fart and drink. For most of history there were millions of buffalo on those same lands. Herds 20 miles long or better. I think that by the time those herds were done in an area it was stripped of vegetation, water holes and streams were muddy messes, they farted, and even died leaving their rotting carcass behind. When the rivers had floods hundreds of buffalo would drown and rot in the water.
By: mhstz. on 13 Dec 08, 20:56:24
True. But I don't think they are based on all the facts either. The opinion that there was widespread over grazing of cattle on public lands is another example. They said ranchers were over grazing on leased public lands. Cattle were ommiting toxic flatulance. They were causing soil errosion. Muddying up streams! Ruining the eco system. As a result the ranchers lost the leases on a lot of public lands. I think for many reasons that was wrong and I will explain them to make my point.
By: carlwegenschimmel. on 13 Dec 08, 18:25:12
You sound like some sort of right wing extremist "environmental religion" environmental facts are not centered on Al gores beliefs.
By: carlwegenschimmel. on 13 Dec 08, 18:21:10
That picture showing caribou content is quite false. It was found that caribou move away from human activities into areas with poor food which effects winter survival of the calves. The coastal plain contains the best food resources. Caribou can also die of stress if activities are to loud.

There are more polar bear dens there now then there was in the early 70's too.

I support people who have a clear and concise world view. Hating anyone is out of the question. As far as where I get my fuel? The grocery store. I walk and bike everywhere. I don't drive, I never have, I don't own a car. I've never enjoyed the sensation of pickets up the bumm.
By: pjeeves. on 13 Dec 08, 04:53:53
I know and I trust the Canadians way more than the Muslim Extremists. I have yet to read where you buy your fuel, unless you can afford the newest technology. Maybe you have a solar or fuel cell vehicle. Anyway, making judgements on me and calling names does nothing to improve the situation. Please figure out what fence you are on before condemning folks who have realistic ideas/opinions. You have your head in the sand of those you support. Enjoy the headache.

Nazi germany was not socialist they were right wing facists and shared a lot more in common with the bush administration.

1 - "Your plan" will have no effect besides convincing strangers you are immoral and unintelligent. You won't get to kill Arabs or mess up the world. You might give someone a headache. 2 - You are so concerned about Arab oil...you do know that the highest percentage of oil used by the US is Canadian...right?

By: pjeeves. on 12 Dec 08, 21:50:33
I also buy my gas from BP/Amoco, as they are the only company (AFAIK) that gets their crude from Alaska and Canada. Shell, Mobil, and most of the others get it from the middle east. Conoco(or whatever they are called now) has a loony at the wheel in their country as well. I will not patronize companies that send out our cash,IF I CAN HELP IT. As we ALL know, we can't stop it all at once, due to our responsibilities, to kids, church, society, et al.I just wish BP would be nicer to Lake Michigan.
By: carlwegenschimmel. on 11 Dec 08, 19:55:50
Does any one here know who the gwich'in people are and how there lives will be impacted by the drilling?
By: NoirMusic. on 11 Dec 08, 01:09:39
I lived in AZ for quite a while. Go look at McCain's voting record. He has "flip-flopped" as much as anyone. Have you ever asked why a man might say I am "pro-this" and then vote against it? Could it be that it was a bad law? Or perhaps it had too much pork? Or maybe in that tax cut for the poor the republican party has put a rider on that would ban gay marriage or late term abortion or require that to get the tax cut the wife would have to quit her job and stay home with the kids.
