Hi Wushu 360, there is no A team anymore that stopped a fw years ago, but this group will make it to the beijing wushu team soon enough. The coach is ex Beijing wushuu team, one hint for you to land your 360's is take off from a higher than ground level platform, high enough to land the 360, and soft enough to cushion your landing, then graduually decrease the height of your platform until you're at ground level, hope that helps :) The kids train at shi cha hai, jet li's old school,V famous

I've watched this video tens of times and its helped quite alot with some of my own jumps. Still cant land the btwist onto my feet though, always me knees :( but this is a great vid. are these beijing A team kids or something? cuz they're amazing

yeah san shou is the correct term in mandarin, although it is commonly known as san da around the world. wushu itself was very much engineered with a strong russian influence, at least modern wushu.

there are no locks allowed in sport sanda. Further more, my definetion of hand-techniques does not include "throws", only strikes. Sanda is very good, I practice it in Dalian on a daily basis (and wish I was as good as the people in the vid). However, the logic of a few people on this board would consider tennis superior to ping pong because a tennis player runs more. A pro sanda fighter would have almost no chance against a high level pro boxer (in a boxing match) and vice versa.

Well, like I wrote already the hand techniques are throws and locks, since I last looked they're not used in boxing, so those. And obviously there is a backfist which is different and how many other ways are there to throw a punch? San da has taken moves from western boxing and judo and tae kwon do and all in all it's very exciting and different so we can enjoy yet another pugilistc sport, this is good, yeah?

What hand techniques does "sport sanda" use that are different than western boxing? I guess a spinning backfist is the only one I can think of. All the rest are jabs, hooks, straights, and upercuts. Is Sanda a more complete Combat sport? yes.. Is it better than boxing?? How Can one sport be better than another. You can say "I like sanda's rules better".

Better than boxing all-round when you consider boxers don't use kicking techniques, and boxers don't use throws or locks, in san da there are many hand techniques that use hands, which is different from boxing!

I've trained boxing for two years and Sanda has proved it self much more useful in the street and in the ring, I might even say that every techniqe in boxing that i've learned except skipping with the rope sanda has a better one!

Hey Paul, thanks! Those guys in the back they're tall, man, I mean really tall, I think they're the volleyball kids though and they make so much noise, grrr.. but they're nice enough, they don't bother you or something, they just train and train and train. The kids are great and I'm sure they're much better now as this footage is from march in 2006, I'd love to see some footage of them, my friend is there either now or soon so I'll ask him to put some more vids up and let you know about it K

These are kids who train at an elite sports school. They train full time. The coach, who is a former member of the Beijing wushu team and a champion of China in '96, told me herself that these kids will go on to join the Beijing wushu team as she did herself. The last generation are very famous for their basics, but since the Iwuf changed the rules athlete's concentrate on jump kicks more so now. So, these kids are the elite of their generation! I am not dissing these kids, but i dont think these are the elite. I think these ones just do it for fun. I have seen the last generation at least and they had very solid basics compared to this.

Maybe they meant 3/4 professional schools? There are lots of kids schools, but just the 3-4 schools for the pro's, like where the gymnastics kids were or Qing Pu, etc. I still plan on visiting the UK someday. Just don't ask me when! hahaha.

haha .. i hadn't seen this before. nice voiceover. I actually think there are more like 10 or 12 wushu schools scattered around Shanghai, but this is one of the better known-ones. If you'll recall from that competition we watched, there were a bajillion kids from all over Shanghai. This is Mark, btw.

ok there are some fantastic places for you to go to if you can travel and are prepared to be very much a foreigner expected to learn Chinese culture as well as wushu. They are looking to form great relationships! Then I can help you. I stayed somewhere other than the university, SUS, my friend organised it for me. Are you planning to visit as a group or by yourself? I've also heard bad things about SUS, then I've heard good things too. I think the main thing is the Chinese students, it's going to be their profession.

Stick also known as staff or cudgel is considered the first weapon, then you can choose a long and a short weapon. This can be the broadsword and stick and the other choice is straight sword and spear. You then specialise in those particular weapons for competitions. You can still learn more weapons such as soft weapon, halberds and daggers even a fan. It's up to you, but these are considered more traditional weapons.

I've done Wushu for almost 8 years now so I go to China to train and take part in competitions. Yes, you can go and spectate, I think you have to pay a little money. You have just missed the cahance to visit Beijing were the 9th World Wushu Championships were being held, they just finished on sat 17th Nov. Canada done fantastic over there. I don't know where you are exactly, but I know there is a good wushu club in Chinatown in Toronto. Thanks for your comment.
